Arezzo and surroundings - 100 km from San Gimignano
Arezzo boast a huge artistic and natural heritage enclosed in an extraordinarily concentrated area. Among the most fascinating places there is Piazza Grande, with the Vasari Lodges and Fraternità dei Laici building, S. Maria Parish Church with its bell tower, the Duomo and S. Francesco cathedral with the frescoes by Piero della Francesca. At the top of the hill of S. Donato stands the Medici Fortress, which absolutely deserves to be visited. Arezzo is a city where ancient traditions continue to vibrate and, to fully experience them, you can visit it during the penultimate Saturday of June and the first Sunday of September, when the Piazza Grande becomes the setting of the Giostra del Saracino. Furthermore, the Antiques Fair takes place every first weekend of the month, a monthly appointment that animates the same square together with a large part of the historic center. Besides the city, the province of Arezzo is also rich in charming villages and castles, such as Lucignano, Cortona, Anghiari and San Sepolcro.
